Curaçao is a Caribbean island country and a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, located in the southern Caribbean Sea, just north of Venezuela. It is part of the Lesser Antilles and, along with Aruba and Bonaire, forms the ABC Islands. The capital and largest city is Willemstad, known for its colorful Dutch colonial architecture and UNESCO World Heritage status. Curaçao has a high-income economy, primarily driven by tourism, offshore finance, and oil refining. Although it has autonomy in internal affairs, the Netherlands is responsible for defense and foreign relations. Curaçao is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM, as an associate member), the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS, as an observer), and other regional organizations.
