The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), commonly known as North Korea, is a country in East Asia located on the Korean Peninsula, bordered by China and Russia to the north and South Korea to the south, with the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) acting as a buffer. It has a coastline along the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan (East Sea). The capital and largest city is Pyongyang, which serves as the country’s political and economic center. North Korea is a one-party state, ruled by the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), with a centralized planned economy focused on heavy industry, military production, and state-controlled agriculture. North Korea remains highly isolated, facing international sanctions due to its nuclear weapons program. It is a member of the United Nations (UN), the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Regional Forum (ARF).
