The country is rich in oil reserves, which form the backbone of its economy, although it has faced challenges such as political instability, conflict, and economic dependency on oil. Iraq has a parliamentary republic form of government, and its history spans ancient civilizations such as Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians. Iraq is a member of the United Nations, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
