Jordan is a country in the Middle East, bordered by Syria to the north, Iraq to the east, Saudi Arabia to the south, and the West Bank of Palestine to the west. It has a small coastline along the Dead Sea to the southwest. Its capital and largest city is Amman, which serves as the cultural, political, and economic hub of the country. Jordan is known for its ancient history, including the historic site of Petra, an ancient Nabataean city and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The country’s economy is based on services, manufacturing, and tourism, with key exports including potash, phosphate, and textiles. Jordan has a monarchy with a parliamentary system and is a member of the United Nations, the Arab League, and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
