Niue is a small island country in the South Pacific Ocean, located east of Tonga, south of Samoa, and west of the Cook Islands. It is one of the world’s largest coral islands and is known for its limestone cliffs, clear waters, and marine biodiversity. The capital is Alofi, and the island has a small population, with many Niueans living abroad, primarily in New Zealand, which Niue has free association with. While self-governing, Niue relies on New Zealand for defense and foreign affairs. The economy is based on tourism, fishing, agriculture, and remittances, with support from New Zealand aid. Niue is a member of regional organizations such as the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) but is not a United Nations member.
