Serbia is a landlocked country in Southeast Europe, located in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula, bordered by Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. It is known for its diverse landscapes, including mountains, plains, and rivers, as well as its historical cities and cultural heritage. The capital and largest city is Belgrade, situated at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers, serving as the political, economic, and cultural center. Serbia has a developing upper-middle-income economy, based on agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and services, with growing investments in technology and infrastructure. It is a parliamentary republic and a candidate country for European Union (EU) membership, and a member of the United Nations (UN), Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
