Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya, with a long coastline along the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden. It is known for its strategic maritime position, arid climate, and nomadic traditions, as well as its complex political and security challenges. The capital and largest city is Mogadishu, serving as the political and economic center. Somalia’s economy is largely informal and based on livestock, remittances, telecommunications, and agriculture, with ongoing efforts toward reconstruction and development. It is a federal parliamentary republic with multiple regional states, though some areas, including Somaliland, function with de facto autonomy. Somalia is a member of the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), Arab League, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
