Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean, located off the east coast of the United States, about 1,035 km (643 miles) southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Its capital and largest city is Hamilton, a major financial hub. Bermuda is known for its pink-sand beaches, subtropical climate, and strong offshore insurance and reinsurance industry. While it has internal self-governance, the United Kingdom is responsible for its defense and foreign affairs. Bermuda is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as an associate member and maintains a close economic relationship with the United States and the United Kingdom.
