Benin is a West African country bordered by Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, Burkina Faso and Niger to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Its capital is Porto-Novo, while Cotonou is the largest city and economic center. Benin has a tropical climate and a diverse cultural heritage, including the historic Kingdom of Dahomey and the roots of Vodun (Voodoo) traditions. The country’s economy is primarily based on agriculture, trade, and cotton production. Benin is a democratic republic and a member of the United Nations, the African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
