Burundi is a landlocked country in East Africa, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, with Lake Tanganyika forming part of its southwestern border. Its capital and largest city is Gitega, while Bujumbura remains the country’s economic hub. Burundi has a predominantly rural population, with an economy heavily reliant on agriculture, particularly coffee and tea exports. The country has experienced political instability and ethnic conflicts in the past but continues efforts toward development. Burundi is a member of the United Nations, the African Union (AU), the East African Community (EAC), and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
