Comoros is an island country located in the Indian Ocean, off the eastern coast of Africa, between Madagascar and Mozambique. It consists of three main volcanic islands: Grande Comore, Mohéli, and Anjouan, while the nearby island of Mayotte remains under French administration. The country has a mixed cultural heritage, influenced by African, Arab, and French traditions. Its economy is primarily based on agriculture, fishing, and remittances, with exports including vanilla, cloves, and ylang-ylang. Comoros has experienced political instability since gaining independence from France in 1975 but continues efforts toward economic and social development. It is a member of the United Nations, the African Union (AU), the Arab League, and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).
