Kazakhstan is the largest country in Central Asia and the ninth-largest in the world by land area. It is bordered by Russia to the north, China to the east, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west. The capital city is Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana), while Almaty is the largest city and the economic center of the country. Kazakhstan has a diverse geography, ranging from steppes and deserts to mountain ranges and lakes. The country is rich in natural resources, including oil, gas, minerals, and metals, and has a significant agriculture sector, producing grain, livestock, and wheat. Kazakhstan is a presidential republic and a member of the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
