The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is a sovereign island country located in the western Pacific Ocean, consisting of four states: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, which are spread across more than 600 islands. The country is located to the northeast of Papua New Guinea and north of the equator. Its capital is Palikir, located on the island of Pohnpei. The Federated States of Micronesia is known for its diverse culture, with each state having its own distinct languages, customs, and traditions. The country is rich in marine life, with beautiful coral reefs and tropical landscapes, making it a popular destination for eco-tourism. The economy of FSM is largely based on fishing, agriculture, and remittances from Micronesians working abroad, as well as U.S. financial aid under the Compact of Free Association. FSM is a member of the United Nations, the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), and other regional organizations.
