Saint Martin (French part) is an overseas collectivity of France located in the northeastern Caribbean, occupying the northern part of the island of Saint Martin, which it shares with Sint Maarten (Dutch part). It is known for its beaches, multicultural atmosphere, and duty-free shopping, and forms part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. The administrative center is Marigot, which serves as the main town and port. The economy relies heavily on tourism, retail, and services, with financial support from France and the European Union, especially for post-hurricane recovery. As a French overseas collectivity, Saint Martin is a member of the European Union (EU) as an Overseas Country and Territory (OCT), but it is not part of the Schengen Area.
