Samoa is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, located between Hawaii and New Zealand, comprising the main islands of Upolu and Savai’i, along with several smaller islands. It is known for its lush rainforests, volcanic mountains, beaches, and strong Polynesian culture, including the traditional Fa’a Samoa way of life. The capital and largest city is Apia, situated on the island of Upolu, and serves as the political and economic center. Samoa has a small, open economy based on agriculture (coconut products, taro), remittances, tourism, and development aid. It is a parliamentary democracy, having gained independence from New Zealand in 1962, making it the first Polynesian nation to do so in the 20th century. Samoa is a member of the United Nations (UN), Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Commonwealth of Nations, Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), and World Trade Organization (WTO).
