São Tomé and Príncipe is a small island country in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western equatorial coast of Central Africa, consisting of two main islands: São Tomé and Príncipe. It is known for its tropical rainforests, volcanic landscapes, cocoa plantations, and rich biodiversity. The capital and largest city is São Tomé, located on the island of the same name, and serves as the political and economic center. The economy is primarily based on agriculture (notably cocoa), fishing, tourism, and foreign aid, with prospects for future development in oil exploration. São Tomé and Príncipe is a unitary semi-presidential republic, and one of Africa’s smallest and least populous countries. It is a member of the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), and Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
