Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. It is known for its rugged mountains, including the Pamir and Alay ranges, and a largely agricultural economy supported by remittances from abroad. The capital and largest city is Dushanbe, serving as the political, cultural, and economic center. Tajikistan’s economy relies on aluminum production, cotton farming, hydropower, and remittances, particularly from migrant workers in Russia. It is a unitary presidential republic, and one of the poorest countries in the region, though it has shown steady economic growth in recent years. Tajikistan is a member of the United Nations (UN), Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
