Tokelau Population

Population: 2,397
Currency: New Zealand dollar (NZD)

Tokelau is a dependent territory of New Zealand, consisting of three small coral atolls—Atafu, Nukunonu, and Fakaofo—located in the South Pacific Ocean, roughly halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand. It is one of the world’s most remote and least populous territories, with no airports and limited access by boat. The capital is rotational, shared among the three atolls, and administrative functions are managed from Apia, Samoa. The economy is based on subsistence agriculture, fishing, public sector employment, and financial aid from New Zealand, with limited commercial activity. Tokelau is not a sovereign state, but it exercises a degree of self-governance under the sovereignty of New Zealand, and it is a member of regional organizations such as the Pacific Community (SPC) and Pacific Islands Forum (PIF, as an observer).
