Türkiye (formerly known as Turkey) is a transcontinental country, straddling Southeastern Europe and Western Asia, bordered by Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan), Iran, Iraq, and Syria, with coastlines along the Aegean Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and Black Sea. It is known for its rich cultural heritage, historic cities, and its role as a bridge between East and West. The capital is Ankara, while the largest city and economic hub is Istanbul. Türkiye has a diversified upper-middle-income economy, driven by manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and services, and is a key player in regional and international affairs. It is a unitary presidential republic, and a member of the United Nations (UN), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), G20, and the Organization of Turkic States, and is a candidate for European Union (EU) membership.
