Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela) is a country on the northern coast of South America, bordered by Colombia, Brazil, and Guyana, with a long coastline along the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It is known for its rich natural resources, especially oil reserves (among the largest in the world), as well as diverse ecosystems that include the Andes mountains, Amazon rainforest, and the Orinoco River basin. The capital and largest city is Caracas, which serves as the political, cultural, and economic center. Venezuela’s economy, once one of the strongest in Latin America, has been severely affected by hyperinflation, economic mismanagement, and political crisis. It is a federal presidential republic, officially named in honor of SimĂłn BolĂvar, the South American independence leader. Venezuela is a member of the United Nations (UN), Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Organisation of American States (OAS, though its membership is disputed), Latin American Integration Association (ALADI), and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
