Switzerland leads the world in percentage of population 25+ with a doctoral degree at 3.31% in 2024, followed by the United States (2.3%) and Australia (1.82%). South Korea (0.97%) and Portugal (0.76%) close out the top 5. Next up, the United Arab Emirates (0.73%) and Saudi Arabia (0.73%). Greece (0.73%), Bahrain (0.63%), and Serbia (0.58%) round out the top ten. The gap across the top ten is wide: Switzerland has 5.7× the value of Serbia (0.58%). Four of the top ten are in Europe, with three from Southern Europe. Among these countries, the United Arab Emirates saw the largest year-over-year change at -27.0%.
