Holy See tops the global rankings for number of deaths per 1,000 people, recording 24.73 per 1,000 population in 2026, followed by Monaco (18.75 per 1,000 population) and Saint Helena (17.3 per 1,000 population). United States Virgin Islands (15.48 per 1,000 population) and Bulgaria (15.33 per 1,000 population) complete the top 5. Niue (14.86 per 1,000 population) and Latvia (14.84 per 1,000 population) follow close behind. Saint Pierre and Miquelon (14.38 per 1,000 population), Serbia (14.35 per 1,000 population), and Republic of Moldova (14.23 per 1,000 population) round out the top ten. The spread is substantial: Holy See has 1.7× the figure recorded by Republic of Moldova (14.23 per 1,000 population). Six of the top ten are in Europe. Among these countries, Monaco saw the largest year-over-year change at -3.4%.
