Italy tops the global rankings for net electricity imports (imports minus exports), recording 51 billion kWh in 2024, followed by United Kingdom (33.4 billion kWh) and Thailand (32.4 billion kWh). Germany (26.3 billion kWh) and United States of America (13.8 billion kWh) complete the top 5. Brazil (11.6 billion kWh) and China, Hong Kong SAR (11.4 billion kWh) follow close behind. Hungary (10.7 billion kWh), Portugal (10.5 billion kWh), and Belgium (10.3 billion kWh) round out the top ten. The spread is substantial: Italy has 4.9× the figure recorded by Belgium (10.3 billion kWh). Six of the top ten are in Europe. Among these countries, Belgium saw the largest year-over-year change at +531.2%.
