Syrian Arab Republic tops the global rankings for average number of pupils per trained teacher in secondary education, recording 71.93 pupils/teacher in 2024, followed by Chad (65.24 pupils/teacher) and Puerto Rico (60.52 pupils/teacher). Niger (59.52 pupils/teacher) and Indonesia (56.79 pupils/teacher) complete the top 5. Bangladesh (47.91 pupils/teacher) and Peru (41.88 pupils/teacher) follow close behind. Rwanda (38.08 pupils/teacher), Nepal (35.64 pupils/teacher), and Nauru (34.27 pupils/teacher) round out the top ten. The spread is substantial: Syrian Arab Republic has 2.1× the figure recorded by Nauru (34.27 pupils/teacher). Four of the top ten are in Asia. Among these countries, Niger saw the largest year-over-year change at -50.0%.
