With 54.76 pupils/teacher in 2025, Indonesia leads the world in average number of pupils per trained teacher in primary education, followed by Laos (51.96 pupils/teacher) and Gambia (36.87 pupils/teacher). The top 5 is rounded off by Uzbekistan (26.12 pupils/teacher) and Nauru (25.8 pupils/teacher). Further down, Kyrgyzstan (24.54 pupils/teacher) and Nepal (23.63 pupils/teacher) hold the next two spots. Algeria (21.38 pupils/teacher), Thailand (14.56 pupils/teacher), and Kazakhstan (13.91 pupils/teacher) round out the top ten. At the extremes, Indonesia is 3.9× as high as Kazakhstan (13.91 pupils/teacher). Seven of the top ten are in Asia, with three from South-Eastern. Among these countries, Uzbekistan saw the largest year-over-year change at +24.7%.
