With 542.8 million metric tons in 2024, China leads the world in coal and coke imports, followed by India (232.8 million metric tons) and Japan (171.1 million metric tons). The top 5 is rounded off by South Korea (115.6 million metric tons) and Taiwan (57.0 million metric tons). Further down, Vietnam (49.8 million metric tons) and Türkiye (40.8 million metric tons) hold the next two spots. Malaysia (39.3 million metric tons), the Philippines (39.3 million metric tons), and Thailand (31.8 million metric tons) round out the top ten. Across the top ten, China is 17× as high as Thailand (31.8 million metric tons). Among these countries, China saw the largest year-over-year change at +35.3%.
