China tops the global rankings for hydroelectricity installed generating capacity, recording 377.3 million kW in 2024, followed by Brazil (110 million kW) and Canada (84.1 million kW). United States of America (79.9 million kW) and Russian Federation (49.1 million kW) complete the top 5. India (47.3 million kW) and Türkiye (32.8 million kW) follow close behind. Norway (32.5 million kW), Viet Nam (23.7 million kW), and Japan (22.2 million kW) round out the top ten. The spread is substantial: China has 17× the figure recorded by Japan (22.2 million kW). Five of the top ten are in Asia. Among these countries, Viet Nam saw the largest year-over-year change at +3.5%.
