Nigeria tops the global rankings for number of deaths of infants under age 1, recording 515.09 thousands in 2026, followed by India (480.8 thousands) and Pakistan (322.1 thousands). Democratic Republic of the Congo (219.14 thousands) and Ethiopia (125.97 thousands) complete the top 5. Niger (70.29 thousands) and Indonesia (69.16 thousands) follow close behind. Angola (66.77 thousands), United Republic of Tanzania (66.04 thousands), and Mozambique (62 thousands) round out the top ten. The spread is substantial: Nigeria has 8.3× the figure recorded by Mozambique (62 thousands). Seven of the top ten are in Africa, with three from Eastern. Among these countries, India saw the largest year-over-year change at -4.0%.
