China is projected to top the global rankings for population aged 80 years and over (oldest-old), recording 38.5 million in 2026, followed by India (16.9 million) and the United States (15.2 million). Japan (13.4 million) and Germany (6.2 million) complete the top 5. Russia (4.8 million) and Italy (4.7 million) follow close behind. Brazil (4.6 million), France (4.4 million), and the United Kingdom (3.9 million) round out the top ten. The spread across the top ten is substantial: China would have 10.0× the figure recorded by the United Kingdom (3.9 million). Five of the top ten are in Europe. Among these countries, Brazil is projected to see the largest year-over-year change at +4.9%.
